Day of the Dead Celebration 2014 in Memory Care

I love, love love having this seasonal celebration. It brings such meaning to the fall season. It’s a time to tie in a Mexican Cultural Tradition with really and truly honoring and remembering our loved ones.

First We made some Pan de Muerto. We brought old photos of our loved ones and talked about their likes and dislikes. We put out things they like to eat and drink.

We made garlands with the Marigold which is the Day Of The Dead Flower and is used in offerings to the spirits during the Day of the Dead observance.

We made skeleton masks to represent our own mortality and the playfulness we can have to celebrate life.

Cocreative Partnership with Nature Session

12/4/2014

I open a co-collaborative process with the natural elements in your work space, home, garden and park where we develop conscious teamwork and partnership with nature. It invites the question, what does nature want? What do i want from nature? Nature wants participate in the landscaping, creating plant art, using plants for healing, animal sanctuary, plant placement inside: Do I cut down that tree? where do i build that pond? Questions are unlimited. What can I do to stop pollution in my neighborhood? It is a wonderful way to add to your already creative thinking about your space and environment. Inviting in the spirit of the water, air, dirt, plants, and all beings involved creates a more well rounded, living harmony understanding of all that is present. It is very satisfying to add these elements and have all your questions answered. Being in touch in this way and experiencing it will change the way you view the world.

Fairy House Building
A workshop for all ages with Mary Kraemer and Ginger Webb At Festival Beach Community Garden in Austin, Texas

Fairy class  Co creative process perceptions notes and comments:

“I thought of it as a buying fairy furniture and placing in a structure event”

“It came more intuitively than I thought”
“Taking up all the different elements of the waste products that brings in the energies of the place.”
“The wind carried the cloth that I had tied on a piece of wood, into the air, unveiling the hidden energies that I can’t see.”
“I never would have looked into the compost pile.”

“The repetition of the things you made with the purple eggplants and the acorns remind me of fertility and birth.”

At the fairy garden workshop participants made fairy houses with what inspired them and they found on hand at the community garden. They chose a space and a place that inspired them to co create with the energies they felt present. We worked with the phrase ” We co creatively build a fairy house with the essential life energy flowing through us and connects us to the deva consciousness.
My workshop works directly with the land and the energies and materials of the land present there. It teaches you about being present with yourself as well as what you hear in that place.

May Day
At the nursing home we had a May Day celebration. We made flower crowns and had a maypole. Such beautiful faces surrounded in flowers. I love hearing their stories about the Maypole when they were young.

Potpourri
Making potpourri with dried materials
I so delighted in this activity!
I didn’t have any fresh flowers that day. I have been drying some plants and flowers in my drying rack for some time.
So I decided to try out making potpourri. I had some dried orange peels, camphor and rose petals that I had saved. I had some delphinium and moss from the wholesale floral supply. Moss is necessary to hold the scent.
First we put it in separate bowls to differentiate the scents. The rose I had to add a little rose essence to it. What a delight it is to smell these. Then we took a little from each bowl to put in a bag. After which we smelled them all together. It was surprisingly strong smelling on its own.
I brought some essential oils to add to the bag if desired. What a lovely way to awaken the senses, bring a smile, talk about feelings and experiences from the past.
We then took some to those who were in bed.

Green Corn Project garden installation at Mary Lee foundation
On Saturday we all met up at the day center at Mary Lee foundation. Green Corn project brought volunteers. We had decided on a spot, but when everyone looked at it, it was decided the dirt was too poor and needed to be raised beds. There was an area around a tree that had already a raised bed that was deemed suitable. There were many there, possibly fifty people all working. So in no time we got out the weeds took away old rocks cleared out old edging.
Next there was a discussion on what double-digging means. First digging a trench at one end, you loosen the soil and move careful the soil from the second trench. Carefully you try not to disturb it, going across this way. Then finally you put the compost on top.
Then we talked about what plants are going to be put in. Tomatoes, eggplant, rosemary, green beans, cucumber, oregano. All delicious!
Then we talked about how to gently water with a hose, producing a stream like rain, very gently on the garden.

Peas and carrots day
What a delight it is to harvest in the spring of the winter vegetables!
I sprained my ankle and mark tore a muscle in his hip. So the children ran a little wild. We thought it was a good day to harvest the peas and carrots and beets.
We cooked some. DELICIOUS!

ROSE DAY
Oh what fun rose day is!
Making rosebud vases was just the start of exploring roses.
I love to use my five senses with rose.
We all tasted roses with rose chocolate.
We smelled rose essence.
I read about rose lore.
We touched roses by making arrangements.
Seeing the beautiful rainbow of colors roses come in!
